Personal Bio

Dr McIsaac joined the Alta vista Animal Hospital in 1997. She and her husband have recently become proud new parents again to a beautiful baby girl. Dr McIsaac loves to explore Canada’s many beautiful lakes and rivers in a canoe with the company of her family and friends. She also enjoys travelling, dancing (ballroom, latin and step-dancing), biking, skating, sewing and pottery. They share their home with a retired blood donor cat who thinks the baby is the cat’s meow. Dr McIsaac enjoys the challenging and diverse caseload of emergency medicine with it’s fast pace . She loves working in a hospital with access to leading edge technology and specialty services in internal medicine, surgery and ophthalmology. Most of all, she is very proud to work alongside such a dedicated, skilful and compassionate team of professionals who treat each patient with the same love and care they give their own pets.

Professional Bio

Dr. McIsaac began her veterinary education watching her father perform C-Sections on cattle when she was a child. If she was lucky, her father would let her scrub in to assist! She hails from a family of dedicated veterinarians that includes her father, brother and brother in law.

She obtained her Bachelor of Sciences degree with honours in Molecular Biology at the University of Ottawa. She then completed her doctor of veterinary medicine degree at the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995 at the University of Guelph. While attending the Cornell University Veterinary Student Leadership Program, she won the top research award. She has also traveled to Kenya and Uganda to participate in research on trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) at the International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases (ILRAD).

Although she has found her niche in the challenges of Emergency/ICU medicine, she has also held diverse positions including: associate professor with the veterinary technician program at Algonquin College and diagnostician with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Foreign Animal Disease Surveillance Unit.

She considers herself very blessed to have developed many rich friendships with her clients over the years. Her thoroughness, compassion and honesty have guided many people through the often difficult decision-making process they face when their loved ones become ill.
