Personal Bio

Dr. Asselin's veterinary career has taken him to the other side of the continent and back again. He has worked as a veterinary assistant in the Quebec Zoo, and after he graduated in 99, he started to work in the USA in an emergency hospital in Virginia, then worked in California with a referral hospital, and came back to Canada to work as an emergency and referral centre veterinarian in Montreal, Quebec. He now makes his home in Ottawa where he works in the emergency and critical care department at Alta Vista Animal Hospital. He has a particular interest in echography.

While he has always loved animals, it was when he was horseback riding as a teen that he was exposed to veterinary medicine as a career. "When I was in horseback riding camp, I always saw the veterinarian as the 'cool doctor'. When I went away to college, I got into architecture, but finally found my way. I'm glad I ended up in the 'cool doctor' category."

Thierry loves being able to return animals to their owners in good health. Among his most memorable moments on the job was the first time he performed his first c-section. "I don't smoke, but I went home and smoked a cigar with my room-mate to celebrate!"

In his spare time, Dr. Asselin is an avid Ironman triathlete, runs marathons and ultra marathons like a recent 100 mile trail run in the Alps! He also enjoys painting and recently took up salsa dancing!
