Personal Bio
Dr. Erica Tyre graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2005 and was elated to be offered a position as an associate veterinarian at such a well-known and progressive hospital as Alta Vista. She hails from Fredericton, New Brunswick and is proud of her East Coast roots and traditions. Although sad to leave the Maritimes behind, she quickly fell in love with Canada's beautiful capital city.
Dr. Tyre grew up surrounded by 4-footed family members of all sizes and has always had a deep love and respect for animals. For her, the deciding moment to pursue veterinary medicine came when Buffy, her dog, needed emergency treatment after being hit by a car. Being witness to the teamwork, compassion and dedication the team showed, she knew she had to help people and their pets as she had been helped.
She is proud to be able to work alongside the brilliant minds at Alta Vista and her team-mates quickly became like her second family. The size and diversity of service at Alta Vista Animal Hospital offers countless opportunities to grow as a veterinarian but Dr. Tyre soon found her calling as an associate in general practice. Her love of people and the ease in which she can create lasting bonds with people and their furry friends made this a natural choice.
Her time here has flown by because "when you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work". Every day brings a new challenge, a new discovery and a new mystery to unfold.
Nothing warms her heart or brings a smile to her face more than the moment when a sick pet is returned to health and reunited with their family.
Dr. Tyre and her fiancé have made Ottawa their home and that decision has been approved by their true owner Cody (a 14 yr old lab mix referred to as Yoda by many because of his age, wisdom, and pointy head). In her downtime (when not serving Cody), Dr Tyre can be found kayaking, downhill skiing, travelling or spending time with friends.
